Biography
Resi (RACE-ee) Stiegler was born and raised in prime ski country (Jackson Hole, WY, and Lienz, Austria). She's represented the United States at every level of alpine ski racing but one - Topolino, Whistler Cup, Junior Worlds, World Cup, World Championships...and this season she plans to fill in that missing level by racing at her first Olympics.

Update
Stiegler, a crowd favorite with her easy smile and breezy style, to say nothing of her quick acceleration on a slalom course, showed more flashes of brilliance and potential last season. She equaled the best result of her young career, finishing eighth in Semmering, Austria, and was sixth at Worlds. A week later, she bounced between the world Cup in San Sicario and Junior Worlds at Bardonecchia, earning her third medal at that level when she was silver medalist in combined. Racing in World Championships at 17 and 19 should help defuse any anxiety if she makes it to Torino's Winter Games. "Resi can light it up," said Coach Trevor Wagner. "She can really rip."

Start-Up Resi was skiing at two, racing at six. In ’99 Stiegler won silver in GS and bronze in slalom at the J3 Olympics. A year later, she won three golds (SL, GS, CO).  She gave a preview of her 2003 season by scoring a U.S.-best sixth place in a European-packed Super Series season opener. Stiegler skied on the World Cup before her 2002 season was over, and raced in World Championships prior to competing in her first Junior World Championships.

First World Cup
Dec. 15, 2002, in Sestriere, Italy (did not qualify in inaugural “knockout SL”)

Olympics/Worlds Experience
2005 Worlds - 6th in SL, 21st in combined. 2003 Worlds – 10th in combined, 19th in SL

Personal
“Tiger”...Vacationed this summer in Maui with teammate Julia Mancuso… Spent rest of summer resting in secluded log cabin where she grew up. There was work to be done though: autumn firewood splitting and stacking is a favorite upper-body workout… Team Resi: Dad is Pepi Stiegler, Austrian Olympic medalist and former ski school director in Jackson Hole; Mom, Carrie, is an appraiser in Jackson Hole; younger brother, Seppi, is an up-and-coming racer...Her poetry belies her competitive fire – in swimming and soccer as well as skiing... Add fun: playing the fiddle – she’s also competed in fiddle contests – and she brings, among other things, a stuffed moose when she travels...As a kid, Stiegler spent summers at the family home in Austria, and she and Seppi attended grade school in Lienz one year...Growing up slopeside in the Grand Tetons, she would ski to the bus stop...
