| Biography |
Kaylin Richardson followed her older brothers into ski racing while growing up in the Minneapolis area. She began racing at 9 with Team Gilboa at Hyland Hills. Richardson was named to the Team for the 2003 season and quickly progressed through the ranks after winning back-to-back-to-back NorAm slalom titles in 2003; '04 and co-champion in '05.
Update
Richardson dramatically expanded her four-event capability last season, adding three World Cup downhills and three super Gs to her normal diet of gate-running. She still found time to come back and, in dramatic fashion, win the final NorAm slalom of the season to deadlock good friend Canadian Brigitte Acton for the SL title - the third straight crown for "K-Dogg." Coach Patrick Riml explained, "We want Kaylin to get a taste for speed...and, really, to bring a little variety to her skiing." Said Richardson, as she set her No. 1 goal for '06 as making the Olympic Team (which would follow if she clicks with Goal No. 2: scoring World Cup points in four events), "I no longer consider myself a lone tech skier; now I'm a four-event skier."
Start-Up
She started skiing at about 5, moving into racing at 9 with Team Gilboa at Hyland Hills when brothers Chris and Tom started. “I tagged along and figured out it was the sport for me,” she said. She was bronze medalist in DH and super G at the ’99 Rocky/Central J3 Junior Olympics; slalom champ and combined bronze in the J1-2 JOs in ’00; on the U.S. Development Team with the 2001 season.
First World Cup
Dec. 15, 2002, in Sestriere, Italy (Did not qualify in inaugural “knockout slalom”)
Personal
Deferred on an academic scholarship to DU...Dad’s a mortgage executive, Mom’s a retired high school history teacher, both brothers raced in college...Her No. 1 gotta-bring when she travels: nail clippers...Favorite TV show: “The West Wing” (“I’ll even ask my parents to tape this one”)...Loves to read...Also enjoys soccer, Ultimate Frisbee, sailing, chocolate ice cream, camping, mountain biking, and hiking – and wishes she could play the piano...Says she's arguably the worst cook on the women's team (but Goal No. 3 for '06 is to surprise her mates with "culinary expertise" during the season)...She seldom misses a meal being cooked by Lauren Ross or Jessica Kelley - "especially Lauren's pasta and Jess' enchiladas"...Libby Ludlow gets her blue ribbon for neatness - "It is amazing," Ricahrdson said. "Her room always looks impeccable. Nothing out of place and everything as it should be"...
