Biography
A linguistics major at Dartmouth, Carl Burnett is entering his fourth full season with the Ski Team since making the team in 1998. Burnett was paralyzed below the waist in a car crash when he was 5. He took up disabled ski racing at age 12 after watching a race in New Hampshire and at 15 swept all four junior national titles.

Update
"I think I'm ready for some World Cup podiums," Burnett said after finishing sixth twice last season - the best results of his young career. And now that he's earned his linguistics degree from Dartmouth and is able to focus fulltime on skiing, U.S. coaches look for him to boost his results. "Last season, in general, I did a much better job of executing my pre-race plan," he said. Next stop: the podium? He's at home on the high-speed super G course as much as he is running gates in slalom or GS.

Start-Up Burnett’s parents had him on skis before age 4, and after his car accident at 5 left him paralyzed below the waist, they helped him get back out on the hill soon after. When he was 12, he attended a disabled ski race at Mt. Sunapee, N.H., and decided he wanted to be involved in ski racing. He competed in local New England disabled races and attended camps in Vail run by U.S. Disabled Ski Team members Sarah Will and Chris Waddell. He attended Gould Ski Academy in Maine before making the USDST in 1998.
