Lindh Headlines U.S. Hall Class of '05

ISHPEMING, Mich. (Sept. 26) - Hilary Lindh, who left Alaska to boost her racing career and went on to a World Championships gold medal, an Olympic silver medal, a Worlds bronze medal and several World Cup victories and U.S. titles, is among four named as the Class of 2005 to the U.S. National Ski Hall of Fame.

Lindh won the junior world downhill title in 1986, added the Olympic downhill silver medal in 1992 and the DH bronze medal at the 1996 World Championships in Sierra Nevada, Spain. It also was in Sierra Nevada where Lindh - who grew up in Juneau and eventually enrolled in Rowmark Academy in Salt Lake City - won her first World Cup race, capturing the 100th World Cup victory by an American in 1994.

In 1997, she closed her brilliant career by taking the gold medal in downhill at the World Championships in Sestriere, Italy. She finished with three World Cup wins and five U.S. championships (three in DH, one in super G and one in combined).

Lindh, who was married Sept. 17, lives with her husband in Squamish, B.C.

Others named in the Class of 2005 include Erich Sailer from Buck Hill, Minn., one of the most successful development coaches in the nation (among others, 2002 Olympians Sarah Schleper, Lindsey Kildow and Kristina Koznick were coached by Sailer at various times in their careers); former Aspen Ski Resort President Darcy Brown and former ski instructor Walter Foeger, who came from Austria to introduce his "nature teknik" at Jay Peak, Vt., in the mid-Fifties.

Induction ceremonies for the group, which boosts Hall membership to 346 individuals, will be held at the Hall of Fame next April 28. For more details, go to www.skihall.com.
